PORT CLINTON -- A Bowling Green man charged with a Put-in-Bay beating death last year pleaded guilty on Monday.

Zachary Brody, 27, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and two counts of tampering with evidence in connection with the death of 25-year-old Phil Masterson.

Charges of murder and felonious assault were dropped in a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Brody faces a maximum of 16 years in prison. He will be sentenced on May 23.

Last September, Masterson's body was found in the woods behind the Island Club on Put-in-Bay. His body was clothed only in a pair of green shorts and a brown canvas was covering the body.

Brody told authorities he got into a fight with Masterson during an argument. Both men were trained in fighting.
