Take a look at this video--does it blow you away? Welcome to the future of Navy warfare.

The new electromagnetic superweapon has been test fired six times over the past week. The Navy hopes to arm U.S. warships with these railguns to destroy enemy ships, missiles and land targets by 2020.

InnovationNewsDaily reports the railgun uses an electric-powered launcher to project hypersonic bullets at speeds of 4,500 mph to 5,600 mph over 50 to 100 miles. The speed itself would cause devastating damage without exploding.

"We believe this is game-changing technology, and in our case we've invested internal funds of more than $20 million for a subscale prototype to move the technology forward," said Tom Hurn, director of railgun programs at San Diego-based General Atomics, InnovationNewsDaily.
