SYLVANIA -- The high school basketball referee whose gun was stolen during a game was charged on Monday.
During a January basketball game at Southview High School, police say a man snuck into the school through an unsecured door and took Darrel Phillips' 9 mm handgun from a bag.
Phillips has a permit and told authorities he forgot the gun was in the bag. He was charged with possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone in Sylvania Municipal Court.
His arraignment date is Feb. 24. The suspect who stole the gun is still on the loose.
