Here in America, we have our food victories and our losses--like McDonald's taking "pink slime" off the menu. But then there are some food rumors so strange, they're more than difficult to digest.
Oklahoma Sen. Ralph Shortey, R-Oklahoma City, recently introduced a bill that bans the sale and consumption of "human fetuses."
The bill itself is fairly straightforward: "No person or entity shall manufacture or knowingly sell food or any other product intended for human consumption which contains aborted human fetuses in the ingredients or which used aborted human fetuses in the research or development of any of the ingredients."
But as expected, people across the nation are wondering, "Since when have we been eating aborted human fetuses?"
The senator said he read an article about companies like Pepsi Co. allegedly using stem cells in the testing of artificial flavors.
But according to the USDA, there are no recorded cases of food containing fetuses.
"I want a serious conversation about this,” Shortey told the Los Angeles Times. "This wasn't an open invitation for the country to chime in. This was an invitation to my colleagues to have this discussion."
