Power plant's demise means promising future for fish

Environmental groups hope for a rebound of Lake Erie's fish population with the closure of the Bay Shore Power Plant.

First Energy announced last week the coal burning plant would be shut down due to new air pollution rules. Environmentalists have pushed for years for the plant to make changes to the way its uses water from the Maumee River because they say it kills millions of fish near some of Lake Erie's most popular fishing spots.

Most of the killed fish are eaten by some of the lake's most prized specimens, including Walleye and Perch.

The closure will affect around 80 workers.
