WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Tuesday night, President Barack Obama said the state of the union is getting stronger.

During his 3rd State of the Union address, the President also highlighted the country's recent success in marketing American goods abroad.

"Soon there will be new cars on the streets of Seoul imported from Detroit and Toledo and Chicago," the President told a joint session of Congress and millions of television viewers watching his speech.

In addition to the direct mention of the glass city, the President also drew attention to the success of at least one American automaker with ties to Toledo.

"Chrysler has grown faster in the U.S.  than any major car company. Ford is investing billions in U.S. plants and factories and together the entire industry added 160,000 jobs." said the President.

Late last year, Chrysler announced a planned expansion at its Toledo North Assembly Plant that is expected to generate as many as 1,000 new jobs.

The President also drew attention to another automaker with a Northwest Ohio connection during his speech.

"Today General Motors is back on top as the world's number one automaker," Obama said.

The President also discussed a variety of other topics in his speech including the need for a plan to help struggling homeowners refinance and to help students afford college.

Obama also called for higher taxes on millionaires, saying it's not "class warfare" but simply a matter of fairness.

According to the AP, the Republican response to the President's speech charged that Obama has tried to divide Americans.

The response was offered by Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, who also said that Obama has resorted to "extremism" and "stifling, anti-growth policies."
