FREMONT, OH (AP) -- The State Highway Patrol says a tractor-trailer veered into a work zone on the Ohio Turnpike, killing one maintenance worker and seriously injuring two others and the truck driver.

The patrol says 53-year-old Forest Fletcher of Perrysburg died in the crash Tuesday morning near Fremont.

Two other highway workers and the truck driver were flown to hospitals with serious injuries.

Police say workers were outside their vehicles conducting bridge repairs about 30 miles southeast of Toledo when they were hit. It wasn't immediately clear how the crash occurred.

The crash shut down the turnpike's westbound lanes for hours, causing a traffic backup for several miles.

The patrol says the crash is under investigation and no charges have been filed.
