According to a report by NBC News, coffee giant Starbucks has revealed plans to begin selling alcohol at some of its stores.

The Seattle-based chain has been selling food for several years and by the end of the year is expected to add beer and wine to its menu at select locations.

For now, the changes will only be implemented at a small number of stores in Southern California, Chicago and Atlanta.

The retailer also has plans to expand the variety of food sold at its establishments with more "upscale" options.

The expanded menu, including snacks and hot flatbreads, is already being used in six stores in the Pacific Northwest.
