CINCINNATI -- A Cincinnati man is behind bars on charges that he put his pre-teen daughter into a dog cage as punishment.  But it doesn't end there, police say he then threatened to electrify the cage.

But James Tapke's attorney says his client was not trying to hurt his 12-year-old daughter.  He claims Tapke was just joking around and things got out of hand.

Police say 41-year-old Tapke duct taped his daughter, then shut her in the large dog cage.  They say her 13-year-old brother let her out after about 20 minutes inside but Tapke put her back in after she poured water on him.

Cops say Tapke then put an electrical jumper pack on the outside of the cage.  They say he then threatened to shock the cage if his daughter kept acting up.

His daughter was not hurt.

Tapke was arraigned Friday where his bond was set at $50,000.
