Mayor Mike Bell and Lucas County Commissioners held a press conference Tuesday to announce a city/county cooperative effort to form a joint material recovery facility.

This facility would collect all of the recyclables from the solid waste district and process it to be sold. Mayor Bell and county commissioners believe that the new facility will bring jobs and more money to the city.

"It's easy to think 20 to 30 jobs will come out of this right away," Lucas County Commissoner Pete Gerkin said.

The new facility would be operated by a private vendor who would assume responsibility of all operations. Officials hope the facility will be up and running by December of 2012.

You can listen to Mayor Bell explain why the city is so interested in the project in the video above.

Should the City of Toledo and Lucas County be getting into business together?
