General Motors has announced a fix to stop battery fires in Chevy Volts.

GM says it will modify the plug-in car to strengthen the protection around the battery. It's calling the modification a "customer satisfaction" action, not a recall. GM says the fires were caused by battery coolant leaking onto an electronic board.

The company says it only had 250 of its 8,000 Volt owners ask for a loaner vehicle or to have their car bought back.
