TOLEDO -- A 61-year-old Toledo woman is dead after she struck another vehicle Tuesday evening.
Toledo police report Deborah Watkins was traveling westbound on Nebraska Avenue when she crossed the centerline and hit a van operated by Lori Howell, 49.
Both victims were transported to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where Watkins succumbed to her injuries.
Toledo Police Department reports this incident was the first fatal traffic crash of 2012. The city of Toledo recorded 12 fatal accidents in 2011, in which 15 people were killed. Last year's number, however, was a vast improvement from the 31 fatalities in 2010.
