A Pennsylvania man tried to kill his wife because he says she spends too much time on the social network site Facebook, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported police as saying.

The Christmas Eve arrest of 51-year-old Harry Hibbs came after North Strabane Township police say Hibbs pushed his wife, who was holding their 2-year-old child, to the ground and hit her in the head with a gun. Hibbs tried to shoot her, but the gun malfunctioned, police said in the report.

Hibbs remains in jail on a $500,000 bail while he faces attempted homicide, assault and reckless endangerment charges.

An attorney for Hibbs is not listed in online court records.
