FINDLAY (AP) -- The state has approved unemployment compensation for Cooper Tire workers who have been locked out at a factory in northwest Ohio for more than three weeks.
Ohio Department of Job and Family Services spokesman Ben Johnson tells The Courier newspaper in Findlay that checks could be arriving as early as next week for about 1,000 unionized workers.
Findlay-based Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. locked out the workers after they rejected a three-year contract proposal.
The newspaper reports the unemployment benefits were approved Wednesday by a Job and Family Services hearing officer. Johnson says Cooper has the option to appeal within 28 days.
Cooper Tire has brought in temporary workers to keep the factory operating.
