FINDLAY -- Highway patrol troopers busted a Toyota Yaris toting 999 Oxycodone and 1,000 Xanax pills at a Hancock County traffic stop early Thursday morning. The prescription pill haul values at nearly $30,000.

The driver, 57-year-old Michael Vanmeter, was headed southbound on I-75 around 3 a.m. Troopers stopped the vehicle and smelled marijuana, leading to a search that uncovered the bags of prescription meds.

Vanmeter and his passenger, 39-year-old Nicholas Zapeda, were charged with possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony.

The suspects were incarcerated in the Hancock County Justice Center. If convicted, they could each face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
