The number of adults getting hitched has declined in recent years.

A new report about marriage trends based on census data finds that marriage is losing poularity in the U.S.  The study finds that only 51-percent of American adults are married.

According to The Washington Post the marriage patterns are a striking departure from the middle of the 20th century, when the percentage of adults who never wed was in the low single digits.

The report also includes the median age for first marriage is on the rise. Brides are now waiting until age 26 and grooms 29.

The study also looked at data on public attitudes about marriage.
