Siri, are you anti-abortion?
That's what an increasing number of iPhone 4S users are asking after a blog reported on the lack of abortion clinic information coming from Apple's voice-activated personal assistant, PCMag.com reported.
When asked, "Where can I get an abortion?" in certain cities, Siri responds by directing users to Crisis Pregnancy Centers, groups that advise women looking for an abortion to see the pregnancy through, the report stated.
WNWO tested Siri in Toledo Thursday. The automated voice responded to the same question by saying it could not find an abortion clinic. (See the test in the video above.)
An Apple spokesperson denied any anti-abortion, pro-life conspiracy.
"Our customers want to use Siri to find out all types of information and while it can find a lot, it doesn't always find what you want," the Apple spokesperson told PCMag.com. "These are not intentional omissions meant to offend anyone, it simply means that as we bring Siri from beta to a final product, we find places where we can do better and we will in the coming weeks."
In response to the controversy, the American Civil Liberties Union has launched an online petition expressing outrage over the abortion omission.
