PORTAGE TWP., OHIO -- Black Friday shoppers in Port Clinton had to leave their bargains behind when a car accident knocked out power at the local Walmart.

A driver ran off of a road and hit a utility pole near the store at the intersection of State Route 163 and State Route 53. The crash occurred at 11:45 PM -- just as Black Friday was getting started at Walmart

Authorities from around the area including police, firefighters and agents from the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol were called in to get hundreds of Black Friday shoppers out of the Walmart. According to published reports, shoppers became agitated and verbally abusive, requiring a number of law enforcement agencies to maintain order.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Joanna M. Fifer, 20, of Marblhead was driving west on State Route 163 when she lost control of her vehicle, ran off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole. The impact sheared the pole off at its base causing live wires to fall across the roadway.

Fifer was taken to the Port Clinton police department where she consented to a breath test. Her result was a .205. Ohio's legal limit for blood alchohol content is .08.

Power was restored to the WalMart at approximately 1:02 AM.

One shopper, Ann Bahnsen of Oak Harbor, told the Sandusky Register, she'd never shop on Black Friday again.  "I could not believe how rude people were. They were shoving, grabbing and tossing items over people's heads."
