TOLEDO -- The appearance of Chrysler Group Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne at the Toledo North Assembly complex had the feel of a pep rally on Wednesday afternoon. Marchionne's announcement that Chrysler was investing $500 million in the facility was met with enthusiastic and sustained applause.
Plant employee Hank Boyd was especially excited about the news that 1,100 new workers will be hired in 2013. "This will be a very exciting time for our plant," he said.
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur reminded the audience that Chrysler is alive today thanks to the government bailout of the auto industry in 2009. "Let me thank President Barack Obama and the 237 members of Congress who voted to make this day possible," Rep. Kaptur said.
The $500 million investment will enable Chrysler to add a third shift of production in 2013. When those positions are ready to be filled, they will be posted at www.chryslercareers.com.
