TOLEDO -- The civic center mall in downtown Toledo attracted hundreds of people for the annual Tent City event.  2011 is the 22nd consecutive year of Tent City, a collaborative effort of both government and non-profit organizations that provides a wide range of free services for the poor and homeless of Toledo.  People can get medical and dental checkups free of charge as well as free clothes and haircuts.  There is also plenty of food.  Much more than getting free stuff Tent City gives people a chance to feel part of a community, according to Angela MacKnight, an agency coordinator.  "The fellowship, being able to hang out with individuals, sit down and talk to people not just about services but also about who they are," Ms. MacKnight said.

Mercy Health Partners, Cherry Street Mission Ministries, Toledo City Council, Lucas County Commisssioners and The Andersons are just a few of the dozens of organizations who have contributed to Tent City.
