TOLEDO -- Kevin Wolever, the former city of Toledo fire inspector accused of several attacks on Toledo fire stations responded to the charges against him in court Wednesday.  The 32-year-old Wolever entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.  Wolever, the son of Toledo's former fire chief Michael Wolever, has been charged with 2 counts of improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation, 1 count of aggravated arson and 1 count of felonious assault.  The charges stem from 3 separate incidents at two Toledo fire stations in September.

Police say that on September 21, Wolever fired a shot into the station 6 fire station on Starr Avenue in East Toledo.  Police allege that the next day Wolever placed an incendiary device outside station 18 on Lewis Avenue.  By Friday, September 24 Wolever is now being watched by police.  That evening officers followed Wolever as he walked from his  Nevada St.  home to station 6 on Starr Avenue.  Officers then heard a shot, confronted Wolever and arrested him.  When Wolever was placed under arrest he immediately requested an attorney and declined to make a statement.

On September 25 and 26, police executed search warrants on Wolever's vehicle and residence.  The search of his house uncovered boxes of ammunition for three different types of weapons, 6 empty boxes of ammunition, empty boxes for three different types of guns, a lap top, flash drive and a notebook containing notes.  The search of Wolever's car uncovered  shell casings and ammunition.

A Lucas County judge has ordered a mental evaluation for Wolever and a hearing has been set for November 10. If Wolever is convicted of all the charges against him he could be sentenced to as much as 48 years in prison. He remains in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $300,000 bond.
