TOLEDO -- The Toledo Zoo has made another birth announcement.  The zoo has two new tiger cubs.

Officials say first time mother Marta is taking good care of them. "Marta appears to be doing a really good job caring for the cubs, but we remain cautious because litters to first-time mothers often do not survive due to poor mothering skills," Dr. Randi Meyerson, curator of mammals, said. "So far Marta is displaying very good maternal behavior." Average litter size for Amur tigers is two to four cubs.

It will be several months before visitors will be able to see them. That's because it takes awhile for them to become fully mobile and get full protection from their vaccines.

The cubs are the second generation of Amur Tigers born at the zoo.  Once known as Siberian Tigers, they are critically endangered.  About 143 live in zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
