MONROE, MICH. (AP) -- A 911 tape of a call from a man hurt in a car-bombing records him describing his children's injuries and pleading with a Monroe County emergency operator for immediate help.

Listen: Erik Chappell's 911 call for help

The car-bombing happened Tuesday evening in Monroe. A law enforcement official familiar with the investigation says the driver was 42-year-old lawyer Erik Chappell. The official requested anonymity because he isn't authorized to speak publicly.

The Blade obtained a recording of Chappell's 911 call. He tells the operator the blast has already been reported but says he wants to explain the seriousness of the injuries to his two sons.

Chappell says "they are bleeding" with leg and buttock injuries and says he needs someone there "now."
