CLEVELAND (AP) -- A Cleveland serial killer has been sentenced to die for murdering 11 women and dumping their bodies around his property.

Judge Dick Ambrose imposed the sentence Friday on 51-year-old Anthony Sowell. The jury that convicted Sowell announced its sentence recommendation Wednesday, and Ambrose followed their wishes.

The judge had announced that Sowell deserved to die after a 45-minute analysis of Sowell's crimes and background factors in Sowell's favor.

Sowell never looked at victims' relatives as they spoke during the hearing. And, he ignored the judge when asked if he wanted to speak.

Prosecutors say Sowell lured the women to his home with the promise of alcohol or drugs.
