TOLEDO -- Day one of the Libbey High School auction ended with zero bids on Wednesday morning, much to the chagrin of the alumni trying to save it. Demolition of the building is slated for December unless the auction attracts a buyer.

The auction is the closed school’s last chance to avoid the December-scheduled demolition. For a minimum price of $395,000, a bidder will receive the 300,000-square-foot building and surrounding property. Only one person signed the bidders sheet, but he only ended up purchasing the school's bleachers.

The building has been nominated for the National Register of Historic Places, but that doesn't save Libbey from Toledo Public Schools' plans.
