BERNE, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities have released the name of the Ohio businessman killed when the small plane he was piloting crashed en route to an upstate New York airport.

Acting Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple on Tuesday says 57-year-old Steven Blackburn of East Grove City, Ohio, was flying the Piper Cherokee that crashed into woods in the rural town of Berne, 15 miles east of Albany.

He says Blackburn was headed to an airport in suburban Albany when he crashed shortly before 7 p.m. Monday. Apple says heavy overcast at the time limited visibility.

The sheriff says Blackburn owned a chimney sweeping business and was going to Albany for a business conference he'd attended the past 17 years.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
