MANITOU BEACH, MICH. (AP) -- Authorities say a Lenawee County sheriff's deputy has fatally shot a man who was on probation after he tried to attack the officer with a knife.

The Daily Telegram of Adrian and the Jackson Citizen Patriot report Brian Arnett was shot twice Wednesday after running at the deputy with the knife outside a row of apartments in Lenawee County near Manitou Beach, about 70 miles southwest of Detroit.

Police say the 30-year-old wasn't complying with the terms of his probation and the deputy was accompanying two probation officers.

No other injuries were reported. The deputy was placed on administrative leave as Michigan State Police investigated.

Court records show Arnett was sentenced in March to probation after he pleaded guilty to resisting and obstructing a police officer.
