Former University of Toledo football player Harvey "Scooter" McDougle plans to plead guilty in a point-shaving scheme from several years ago. McDougle is scheduled to appear in federal court in Detroit on July 18th. McDougle is one of seven athletes charged in a conspiracy to take money from Detroit gamblers to influence the outcome of games, from 2003 through 2005.
McDougle would be the third former Toledo Rocket athlete to plead guilty, following football player Adam Cuomo and basketball player Sammy Villegas. Federal Judge Julian Abele Cook is scheduled to get an update on the case Tuesday.
What does this case mean for the future of Rocket athletics? Do you think the NCAA should punish the University?
