Gov. John Kasich toured parts of northwest Ohio Monday to commemorate last year's Lake Township tornado outbreak.

Seven people died in the storms of June 5, 2010.

Kasich visited the police department and high school, both of which have been at least partially rebuilt since last year's destruction.

The governor, who was not in office when the tornadoes struck, also took a few solemn moments to look at the memorial to the seven victims. Kasich touched each of the names on the small, granite monument before continuing with his tour.

The main reason for the governor's visit was to speak with first responders from the event and share their successes with other emergency management teams across Ohio, Kasich said. The governor spoke frequently about how impressed he is with Lake Township's ability to move forward together as a community.

What do you think about the governor's visit? How do you feel about the timing of the tour, eight days after the anniversary? We want to hear from you, so join the conversation and share your thoughts on the WNWO Facebook fan page!
