TOLEDO -- General Motors is investing $204 million in the Powertrain plant in West Toledo that will lead to 250 new jobs. 

CEO Dan Ackerson made that announcement at the plant Tuesday and was cheered enthusiastically by the hundreds of plant workers who gathered to hear his remarks.  Ackerson was joined by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Toledo Mayor Mike Bell and Ohio Governor John Kasich.

Assembly worker Terry Grams, who has worked for the company for over 3 decades, was very happy about the news.  "I have been here when we had 4400 people in this place and I have been here when we got down to 600 and now we are going back up,' Mr. Grams said.

The new workers are needed to build an 8 speed transmission that GM is targeting for a fuel efficient car.  The $204 million investment is part of an overall $2 billion investment that General Motors is making at 17 plants in 8 states.  The company reported over $3 billion in profits for the first quarter of 2011.
