Within the next 10 years smoking could be banned in workplaces, restaurants and bars in every state.
The new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projects by 2020 every state will have comprehensive smoke-free laws. The prediction is based on the rate at which states have been adopting such laws over the past ten years.
25 states including Ohio and Michigan are totally smoke-free in private sector worksites, restaurants and bars. 10 states have laws prohibiting smoking in one or two of those venues, and seven states have no restrictions.
Secondhand smoke is a major risk factor for health problems, it has been linked to cancer and heart attacks.
