OREGON, OHIO -- Some home improvement experts teamed up with Cardinal Stritch High School on Thursday to renovate one of the building's oldest classrooms.

The chemistry and physics lab is original to the school-- built in 1961-- and has not been updated for 50 years.

But Thursday, about 40 volunteers from the Home Depot put in new lights, ceiling, flooring and even added some new paint and murals.

"Science education is so key to what we do as a high school and so this is providing a state-of-the-art, quality science education to them that will certainly benefit them for years to come," said Father Eric Schild, Cardinal Stritch High School.

"This gives us a great opportunity to take time out of our busy lives and take our own time and get inside and help out those in need," said John Smith, Home Depot manager.

The Home Depot crew finished up the classroom project around 3:30 Thursday afternoon and say they plan to work with Cardinal Stritch in the future.

The school also received two big donations from local companies to help them buy updated science equipment to match their updated lab. The Andersons donated $50,000 and BP Husky donated $25,000.
