TOLEDO, Ohio - Chrysler is telling some Jeep dealers around the Toledo-area not to tinker with the automaker's slogan "Imported from Detroit."

The Monroe Dodge Superstore planned to sell a T-shirt proclaiming "Imported from Toledo," while Grogan's Towne and Charlie's Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram had those words written on a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that was driven out on the ice during a Toledo Walleye hockey game last weekend.

Toledo is home to a Chrysler Group LLC assembly plant that produces the Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicle.

Chrysler spokesman Michael Palese tells The Blade that the automaker appreciates the dealers' enthusiasm but does not want to dilute the "Imported from Detroit" tag line.

Under an agreement with Chrysler, Monroe Dodge, which printed up 600 "Imported from Toledo" shirts, is now giving them away.
