(Fayette, OH)--The Fayette school district's motto is "soar like an eagle." And this catchy slogan is also a big part in how this rural Fulton county community is going green by capturing the power of the wind.
You drive by anywhere in Fayette, Ohio and you can't miss it. A 250-kilowatt wind turbine, standing tall, for all to see.
You also can't miss the swishing sound this 120 foot wind instrument makes with its two blades extending 90 feet from end to end. Or the shadow it casts on the building. The $1.1 million alternative energy project is expected to produce 500-thousand kilowatts annually, providing a little less than half the school's energy consumption each year.
It's estimated the district can save up to $50 thousand dollars annually in electrical costs. Its share of the total project amount should be returned in only two to four years.
Buehrer Group Architecture and Engineering from Maumee oversaw the installation late last year and Wind Energy Solutions, out of the Netherlands, supplied the turbine itself.
