TEMPERANCE -- It was difficult on Monday to find a stretch of pavement in Monroe County that wasn't layered with a thick covering of hard ice. It was equally as dificult to find a neighborhood that didn't echo with the sound of generators. These were the leftovers from one of the worst ice storms to hit Monroe County in recent years. Little was exempt from the frozen skin of winter as ice laden trees came cracking downon top of homes, cars, yards and power lines. Thousands were left without power for much of the day after power lines were ripped down from the falling limbs and trees. Throughout all of southern Michigan, it is estimated that over 100,000 Michigan customers were without power during the storm. Hundreds of flights were cancelled at Detroit Metro Airport as a result of the snow and ice.
