TOLEDO, OHIO -- The City of Toledo is considering privatizing trash pickup and putting it under the control of Lucas County but not everyone is sold on this idea.

Mayor Mike Bell has said that the process would save the city money.

But some city council members feel this is a big waste since just over a year ago Toledo spent $20 million to revamp and automate pickup.

They also worry a private company could put too must cost on consumers.

"What do we do with those people that say 'I'm not paying for trash collection?' And then we're going to have areas of the city that are going to be inundated with very environmentally compromising circumstances so in my opinion this is a bad idea," said Toledo City Council Member D. Michael Collins.

Right now the city is just considering the idea and looking at proposals.

If it comes up for a vote, Collins says he will not support it.
