TOLEDO, OHIO -- The city of Toledo continues to deal with a $14.5 million budget deficit while opening a dialogue with residents.
Toledo City Council will host a town hall meeting for residents to discuss the city's deficit on Monday. The meeting is scheduled to take place from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Huntington Room of the downtown branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.
In late January, Toledo Mayor Mike Bell addressed the city saying that, despite the backlash he has received for cuts and concessions imposed by his administration, the city has decreased spending by about $20 million. The address came as Toledo City Council sits divided on a proposal to raise water and sewer rates to help pay for new infrastructure upgrades. The proposal has been approved by Mayor Bell, but has yet to be approved by council.
The meeting will be the first of three town halls planned for February.
