TOLEDO, OHIO -- The Toledo Zoo has plans to demolish more than a half dozen homes it owns near the zoo.  Neighbors on Amherst have been invited to attend a meeting at the zoo tonight to discuss future plans.

Clayton Porento has spent the last few years being what he calls “a good neighbor" to the Toledo Zoo.  He says he was a little surprised and a lot bothered to hear about the zoo's plan to make some changes in his neighborhood.  “We've heard the news of the zoo taking their properties to demolish,” Porento.

He and his wife will be attending a community meeting for neighbors concerned about the changes.  “Neighbors are concerned that by tearing down these homes it'll change not only the property value but the feel of this entire community,” Porento.

The Toledo Zoo was says as of now there are no plans for expansion.  A community meeting will be held for Amherst neighbors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 3 in the Zoo’s Africa Lodge.

Another meeting will be held for Spencer neighbors on Tuesday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Visitor Services Conference Center.
