FLINT, MI (AP) -- A judge in Flint is planning to resume a key hearing that will determine whether a man blamed for a series of knife-slayings will face a third murder trial.

The probable cause hearing began on Dec. 16 but was adjourned until Tuesday because a witness wasn't available.

Elias Abuelazam  is charged with the fatal stabbing of Darwin Marshall, who was killed in July. Abuelazam already has been ordered to stand trial in two other deaths and six attempted killings in and around Flint.

Defense lawyers are considering an insanity defense, depending on the results of mental-health exams.

The 34-year-old Abuelazam was arrested in Atlanta in August while trying to fly to his native Israel. He's also charged with attempted murder in Toledo, Ohio.
