TOLEDO, OH -- Sgt. Gloria Burks, accused of shooting a fellow Toledo police officer, entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity and was referred by Judge Stacy Cook for psychological evaluation.
Sgt Burks, 50 is charged with felonious assault with a gun specification and assault in connection with the shooting of Sgt. Jeffery Bechtel on September 20 at the Toledo Police Scott Park District Station. Bechtel was wounded in the arm and remains on medical leave.
Burks will report to the court's Diagnostic and Treatment Center for evaluation. A pre-trial hearing is set for March 1.
