TOLEDO, OHIO -- The Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission, or TLCSC, formed two years ago with the sole purpose of turning our community into a more eco-friendly place.
Jeff Grabarkiewicz is the coordinator of the commission. He's had to oversee getting local businesses and community members, like you and me, to work together to create a strong green movement. Owens Corning donated insulation to some homeowners in need. Columbia Gas also gave away energy efficient thermostats.
Even the University of Toledo's graduate engineering program recently devised plans to make Toledo and Lucas County buildings more energy efficient. The students shared their ideas with the rest of the board, made of at least thirty different organizations and a dozen volunteers. It's agreed implementation seems more difficult. But organizers say we all can do our part in the meantime by using better insulation, weather stripping, and low flow plumbing to name a few items.
