TOLEDO, OHIO -- A beloved local hot dog chain could be in new hands soon.
Tony Packo's has been owned and operated by the Packo family since 1932. Yet, now, a majority of the chain's ownership is set to be taken over by the Mancy family and two other local investors.
In late summer 2010, co-owner Tony Packo, Jr., said the company owed $2.7 million after defaulting on two loans.
Gus Mancy says that if the current deal is approved, the Packo family would own just 2% of the nationally-known Hungarian hot dog chain.
Packo's hot dogs were made famous by the 1970's hit television series "M.A.S.H." in which Cpl. Max Klinger, a character played by Toledo-native Jamie Farr, mentioned them. Tony Packo's Inc. operates restaurants in the Toledo area and sells hot dogs and condiments nationwide.
