(Toledo)--Crumbling concrete and rundown roads are now part of the past for Toledo's inner city as urban gardens take over the landscape.
Some $80-thousand of stimulus money is what it takes to turn an old city lot into a flourishing garden of fruits and veggies. But there's so much more sprouting up, including community spirit and participation.
This area off Belmont Avenue is one of a handful of gardens going up thanks in part to the Economic Opportunity Planning Association, or EOPA, of Toledo. The hope behind the program is two fold. community participation and healthier habits with some good eats.
Over the next few weeks, area students will help harvest as well. For more information, you can call 419-242-7304.
