TOLEDO, OH -- Judge Gary Cook has decided that Wayne Powell will receive the death penalty for setting a fire that killed four people including his ex-girlfriend, her disabled mother, and two children.  Jude Cook agreed with the jury who recommended the same sentence last month.

Mary Rose McCollum and her mother Rose Mary McCollum were killed in the November 11, 2006 fire along with Mary Rose’s adopted son, Jamal, 4, and her cousin, Sanaa Thomas, 2.

Powell spent 6 months in a juvenile detention center at age 15 after being convicted of setting a separate fire.  He spent five years in prison, beginning in 1997, for felonious assault.
