NORTH BALTIMORE, OHIO -- Continental Structural Plastics says it will shut down its North Baltimore manufacturing plant in the coming months, despite efforts from state leaders to save the company.

The manufacturer, which makes body panels for cars, will begin permanently laying off workers beginning in October, with the last employees to be let go by Dec. 31.  The company says 214 workers will be affected.

In June, CSP said it was considering a move to Indiana to avoid a costly environmental rule in Ohio. The EPA regulation would have cost the company $500,000 in additional operating costs each year.

The company's letter to the state, announcing the lay offs, did not give a reason for the closing.
