MILLBURY, OHIO -- The process has begun to tear down Lake High School, nearly two months after the building was destroyed by a tornado.
A demolition crew is awaiting a final decision from leaders of Lake Local Schools who are in consultation with insurance officials. The district and their insurance company are trying to determine if any part of the Lake High School structure can be saved.
"We just need a decision on whether it's going to be a partial demolition so we can get the architect busy drawing and us busy building and get the kids back in school, " said Gary Haas of Rudolph Libbe.
School officials are scheduled to meet with their insurance company on Tuesday morning. It could be decided then on whether to proceed with a full or partial demolition.
Leaders hope to have a new school building in place in time for the start of the 2012-2013 academic year. Lake High School students are set to begin the upcoming school year at Owens Community College in August.
