TOLEDO, OHIO -- A Toledo man has been arrested and charged with murder after police say he fatally stabbed another man on a West Toledo street Sunday night.
Authorities say Casey Bucher, 22, of Toledo, was walking home from Maxwell's Brew on Bancroft and Westwood around 8:00 p.m. Sunday when he was confronted by 24-year-old Lawrence Fitzgerald James. Police say Bucher denied James' request for cash or cigarettes. After Bucher said no, James stabbed him once in the chest and fled the scene.
Bucher, who lived in an apartment complex on Farnham, just a few streets behind the restaurant, was taken to Toledo Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He was a student at the University of Toledo and a graduate of Anthony Wayne High School. Police say he was walking home from Maxwell's, where he worked, when the incident occurred. Bucher was not working at the restaurant Sunday night, but was there using the internet, according to authorities.
Police located James at his residence on Indian River Road, just behind Maxwell's, a short time after the incident. He was arrested and charged with murder. He is currently being held in the Lucas County Jail on $500,000 bond. He was arraigned Monday and will next be in court on July 26.
James was released from the Lebanon Correctional Institition on Jun. 6 after having served part of a two-year sentence for attempted felonious assault. Authorities say the 2008 incident was also a stabbing.
