FREMONT, OHIO -- A Fremont man is dead after being shot by Sandusky County sheriff's deputies late Sunday night.

Authorities say Bryan P. Jones, 26, was inside his parents' home on Tiffin Road, south of Fremont, armed with a weapon, when he was shot after 10:00 p.m.   They say they were called to the home by family who said Jones was threatening to kill someone or himself.

Deputies opened fire on Jones after he pointed his weapon at special officers called to the scene, according to authorities. Family members are refuting that scenario, claiming Jones was not armed when he was shot.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene after 11:00 p.m.

The deputies involved in the shooting have since been placed on leave.
