TOLEDO, OHIO -- A Toledo man was arrested outside Westfield Franklin Park Mall Saturday evening after allegedly being seen in the parking lot with a handgun.
Darek Abitua, 23, was taken into custody by off-duty Toledo Police officers around 6:00 p.m. Saturday. He was carrying two handguns, cash and drugs at the time of his arrest.
The suspect was spotted in the parking lot by a mall patron who then told mall security.
Abitua is expected to be arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court on drug-related charges as well as carrying a concealed weapon.
The arrest comes after more than 100 youth were involved in a fracas at the mall in mid-February. Toledo Police arrested more than a dozen people, no older than 16-years-old and most students at Toledo Public Schools. Increased mall security and strick enforcement of curfews were put into place following the incident.
