DUNDEE, MI -- A damaging tornado touched down at County Line Rd. in Dundee, Mich. in the early morning hours of Sunday.  According to the National Weather Service, the EF2 tornado was 800-yards wide, whipping winds of up to 130 MPH.

Jeff Taylor, who lives on Tecumseh St., in the Monroe County village, says he was woken up by the storm around 2:10 a.m.  When he stepped out of his home into a screened in porch he saw one of his cats “levitating about 5-feet in the air then all of a sudden [the cat] shot across the room,” said Taylor. “I grabbed my son, his girlfriend and my granddaughter and said basement now.” Yet, his basement was no match for the sheer force of the storm. “(The) water was actually coming through the concrete wall downstairs. It was scary.”

The Monroe County Sheriffs say there were no fatalities locally from the overnight storm.  Less than one dozen people were taken to the hospital for injuries.

Trees have been uprooted, power lines downed and poles have been broken.  DTE Energy says that 20,000 people were without power after the storm.  DTE has 175 crews working around the clock to restore the power to 15,000 Monroe County residents.

Prior to the touchdown in Dundee, another EF1 tornado touchdown was confirmed in Lenawee County just before 2:00 a.m.  Several businesses and trees were destroyed.
